Reading is the site of Berkshire's new fire and rescue service base. The new headquarters will be at Theale Cross in Pincents Lane, which is close to Junction 12 of the M4 motorway. The building will get a million-pound refurbishment. The service said its current HQ and fire station in Tilehurst, built in the 1960s and early 1970s, were run down. The work will be partly funded by the sale of the Dee Road and Cookham fire station sites.
