Senior management has been stripped back by more than half at Havant and East Hampshire councils in a bid to save £1 million. The local authorities will begin sharing managers from October.

Swaythling Primary School has been flooded after thieves stole lead from the roof of the building on Monday (September 5, 2011. Headteacher John Draper commented that the theft – which occurred overnight at the school in Mayfield Road, Southampton – was "soul destroying".

Hundreds of council workers marched through Southampton in protest at having to take a pay cut. They walked from Andrew’s Park to the city’s Guildhall to protest outside a meeting of the full council. Workers have nearly all been forced to take new contracts that Southampton City Council says will save 400 jobs in the long term.

More strikes are planned by Southampton council workers in a dispute over a proposed pay cut. Thirteen port health workers are due to walk out next week for five days causing major disruption, the Unite and Unison unions said. Other council staff in the area are set to follow them.

A man and his dog were rescued after a fire swept through a Lymington pub during the early hours of this morning (July 1). Crews from Brockenhurst, Lymington, New Milton, Lyndhurst and Beaulieu were called to the scene shortly after 4am.
